With more than 35 years of experience in engineering, management, leadership, and innovation strategy, Richard Dinges serves as principal of Cy Phy Systems.
Most recently, Mr. Dinges served as s the Director for Technology Planning and Innovation at General Dynamics Land Systems. In this role, he was responsible for developing the GDLS technology road map, identifying new technologies that met their customer’s needs and supported continued technological innovations in GDLS products. His organization worked internally across the entire enterprise and externally with customers, users, universities and the industrial base to set the technology insertion vision for core products and concepts for future products. Rich was responsible for establishing strategic working relationships for technology opportunities, managing internal R&D funds and performing competitive analysis.
As a member of the GD corporate Engineering & Technology Council, Rich has led efforts on corporate wide technology collaboration through the technology conferences, E&TC subcommittees and Technology Clubs.
The MC2 Collaboration Center project at General Dynamics Land Systems in Sterling Heights, Michigan was a groundbreaking project led by Dinges in 2010. He led the conception, design and development of this enterprise innovation / collaboration center designed to foster collaboration with the customer, the user and the industrial base. This project optimizes the use of physical collaboration space with a cyber collaboration network, and incorporates advanced innovation tools. The open source innovation environment represents a major paradigm shift in the way system integrators interface with suppliers and the user.
Since joining GDLS in 1977, Mr. Dinges served as Supervisor of Reliability Engineering, Division Business Planning Chief, XM25 Full Scale Development Program Manager, Chief Project Engineer of the Abrams M1A2, Director of System Engineering, and Director of Engineering Programs.
Rich holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Aerospace Engineering from the University of Michigan and a Masters Degree in Business Management from Central Michigan University.
